The MLC, which stands for Mechanical Licensing Collective, was established in 2018 under the Music Modernization Act. The MLC's responsibility is to collect the blanket mechanical royalties that is paid by the digital service providers (Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, etc). At the time of this episode's publishing, the MLC has paid out more than $500 million in mechanical royalties.
